Impact of Trauma on Childhood Development, Behavior and Learning
This training addresses the violence experienced by children and youth and the traumatic impact on their lives. We will define trauma, identify triggers, signs and symptoms, and recognize trauma driven behaviors. Trauma will be illustrated from a neuro-physiological point of reference and participants will examine ways to handle challenging behaviors and promote inner calming. Attention will be given to cultural factors, learning impediments and trans-generational violence in families. We will also examine some effective ways of working with the children, families within the context of their communities. We will address ways for Service Providers to reduce the risk factors of Secondary Trauma AKA Compassion Fatigue.
Objectives
- Learn how traumatic stress impacts the child’s emotions, behaviors and learning
- Learn the role of stress in relation to anger that flares in behavior
- Learn to effectively respond to fear and stress driven behaviors in children and youth
- Learn effective skills and strategies for working with the traumatized child
Fee Structure
Full-Day Training Rate – $6000
Half-Day Training Rate – $4500
In-person training will also include travel expenses and per diem rates subject to market rates.
Financial assistance may be available for agencies in need of support.
